Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower
The Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower is the only remaining part of the old Kowloon Station in Tsim Sha Tsui that used to be part of the Kowloon-Canton Railway. It was used as a landmark for travellers many years ago, and is still a popular meeting spot among locals and tourists today.
This tower, also known to some as just the Clock Tower, was built back in 1915 together with the former Kowloon Station. After 60 years of service the Kowloon Station was demolished and moved to Hung Hom. Many people were very unhappy when this happened. A lot of these people voiced their opinions and protested against getting rid of the Clock Tower. In the end these protests paid off and the tower was saved.
Since then the Clock Tower has become a declared monument and a famous tourist attraction. The clocks displayed on all four sides of the tower still function and display the correct Hong Kong time.
The Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower is located at the waterfront of the south eastern end of the Kowloon Peninsula, close to the Kowloon Public Pier and the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier.
The Hong Kong Space Museum and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre were built where the old Kowloon Station used to be. The Hong Kong Museum of Art is also located nearby. Anyone with a knack for history and museums would have a great day in this part of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Other attractions found nearby include the Victoria Harbour, Avenue of the Stars, the Star Ferry, and A Symphony of Lights.
You can find lots of unique shopping opportunities close by. Some of these shopping spots include 1881 Heritage, Harbour City, and lots of street shops further north.
There are quite a few hotels only a short distance away from the Clock Tower. Some of the more popular ones include the Peninsula Hotel, Marco Polo Hotel, and the Intercontinental Hong Kong Hotel.
The closest MTR Station is the East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station. From this station you can reach the Clock Tower in about 5-10 minutes, but since there are so many things to see along the way, you might find yourself taking longer than 10 minutes to get here.
The Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower is an important piece of Hong Kong’s history that’s worth seeing yourself. With so many things to do nearby, the Clock Tower could easily be a short sightseeing destination during your time in Tsim Sha Tsui.
